The Kitchen Table
There’s more than food served at the kitchen table.
Ask Edwarner Ruffin – husband, father, and soldier in the US Army. As a black man going through the motions and clinging to misconceptions of success, it took a nationwide emergency to show Ruffin he wasn’t winning…he was just getting by. And only the table was going to help pull him through.
In his debut book – The Kitchen Table, Edwarner takes readers on an emotional journey as he comes to grips with the failures cemented by ignoring the lessons he learned at the kitchen table growing up. At the table is where his Christian foundation was laid. At the table is where his parents molded his behavior in church, school, and public spaces. At the table is where high expectations for Edwarner’s promising life were set…but once he gave up his seat, his promising life spiraled into a haze of drugs, disappointment, and self-sabotage. Years later, Edwarner found himself as the head of the family he always desired, but it wasn’t until the world was shut down that he’d reclaim his seat and lead his family to victory.
The kitchen table is known for belly-busting meals that make you want to nap long after enjoying the last bite. For Edwarner Ruffin, the kitchen table is the platform for him and his family to revisit old traditions and begin new ones as they position themselves to inspire others to elevate their mindsets to believe they can be and have anything they set their minds to. The Ruffin family has taken their seat at The Kitchen Table; grab a seat, flip the pages and join them on this journey of restoration!
